The Environment and Sustainability (E&S) theme is focused on fostering innovations that protect the environment, promote sustainable development, and ensure the well-being of future generations. This theme is centered around key global challenges, including climate action, which involves developing technologies and strategies to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts; nature conservation, where efforts are directed towards preserving biodiversity, protecting endangered species, and restoring degraded ecosystems; and sustainable cities and communities, which seeks to create urban environments that are energy-efficient, resilient, and conducive to high quality of life. E&S also encompasses waste management and recycling, promoting the development of systems that minimize waste, encourage the reuse of materials, and reduce environmental pollution. Clean water and sanitation is another critical focus area, with innovations aimed at ensuring access to safe drinking water, improving sanitation facilities, and managing water resources sustainably. The theme also includes responsible consumption and production, encouraging businesses and consumers to adopt practices that reduce resource use and environmental impact. Finally, protection of life emphasizes safeguarding human health and ecosystems through measures that prevent pollution, reduce exposure to hazardous substances, and promote overall environmental stewardship. Startups working within the E&S theme are challenged to create solutions that balance economic growth with environmental preservation, ensuring a sustainable future for all.
